We can compare how the ifugaos dress from other tribes. They have also a different sense of fashion. The ifugaos dress simply due to the temperate climate, but also decorate themselves ornately. The men wear clouts and carry spears with them most of the time while the women wear loin cloths resembling short skirts that extend from their waist to their knees. Both men and women decorate themselves with various jewelry, such as pieces made of gold, brass, beads, pearl, etc.

Hi there, I was reading about how you describe the Ifugaos’ fashion. Well, I am an Ifugao so I am interested what’s being said about things Ifugao. You mentioned that men carry spears with them all the time while women wear loin cloths resembling short skirts. You should indicate what part of history of Ifugaos are these being worn. Otherwise people reading would think they still wear such fashion in the modern times. The last time I was in Ifugao, I haven’t really seen men carrying spears. Just a suggestion, so as not to give people the impression that Ifugaos are still living in such fashion you described.

Yes, I would agree with Bethski in the spear area. Although I have lived mainly in Baguio City, I would say that most of the nearby areas are adapting to the changes, though sadly it would be great to still have the culture lived through by succeeding generations. Not only through clothing is it changing, but in other aspects as well. Housing, for example. The nipa huts are being changed to concrete ones, and these classic house structures are now being moved to groups who want to keep tradition alive such as the Tam-Awan village.

greetings!
Ifugao dresses should be used by users on appropriate occasions. I suggest that it should be included on the curriculum of schools in Ifuago for the coming generations not to forget their own unique customs. thanks… hagiye ifuago… maphod an algo….
