About Ifugaos

By mplacct2005

Hello! Here’s a blog about ifugaos. Do you have any knowledge about them? Maybe you’re wondering what are these or who are they, where they come from and other questions that you may ask.

The ifugaos’ origin is derived from the word “Ipugo” which means “from the hill”. The name “Ipugo” refers to the rice given to the ifugaos by their god Matungalan. This is according to Ifugao mythology. Until now, the ifugaos are still cultivating this kind of rice grain.

Anyway Ifugao is also the name of the place of the ifugaos. Ifugao is a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon. Its capital is Lagawe and borders Benguet to the west, Mountain Province to the north, Isabela to the east, and Nueva Vizcaya to the south.

You’ll know more about them on my next posts. I’ll end temporarily here coz I’ll do some works on inspirational pages and enewsfinder, sites for news and information.

Hi i’m from ifugao and as time goes by, the men seems to avoid using the gstrings so even if i am a woman i use the g-string as part of my fashion. of course i used it in a differnt way!!!!! i love the g-strings!

i really hope that the baki will soon banish. it’s the fasle beliefs that paralyzed our province economy! a common ifugao family situation. besides. slaughterring the only four legged animal to offer to a god. while their child is not able is not educated because they can’t afford. why not believe in someone whom you don’t have to offer something before youget healed!

too much of this baki and all the rituals! my fellow ifugaos specially those educated please wake up!

the ifugagao youths has potentials but sometimes they just lack the initiative. passion is stronger than vision. but combine the two and off you go. hope the ifugao youth will continue dreaming for a peaceful, loving and progressive ifugao! hagiyo1 matago tago taun amin!!!!!

are you realy an ifugao? if yes, then why do you wish that the baki will soon banish?its like your saying that the ifugao people should forget where they came from.it is true that the baki no longer works but,it doesn’t mean that we should erase our culture in our mind like it never existed…besides, nowadays, the baki is performed by the “kadangyan”.its ok for them cause they got money.so why not just go with the flow or even help promote our place and ou CULTURE.

Your blog is a good start. Just double check your sources and/or statements before you post.

e.g. do you mean banish or vanish… why?

baki is one ifugao religious ritual that makes you really ifugao. it borders on the supernatural. our forebears had it since time immemorial so it must have something useful to them/us.

also …. I do not know where you got the impression that Ifugao province was named after the Ifugao river (where is that located?)

    Have a nice day!

my god bugan..how dare you say that the”baki”paralyzed the Provincial economy ( & to correct your grammar not province economy)..and how dare you say false beliefs!!!! the “baki”works (my family still practices baki, and a lot of families still do)baki is part of our lives as ifugaos..and to say the least it nurtured us..our people..our culture..and our existence as ifugaos..
never ever blaspheme “baki”…or you will be cursed…forever…
even if am educated, i don’t see the point in erasing something that is very vital in our existence as a people..and thanks aliguyon and maphodkaya for the input..

    (please do check your grammar..cheers!!)..

  9. Micah Says:

Wake up Bugan………..C’mon, how dare you to say that “BAKI” is a false belief. No matter you say, I still believe in it. Just zip up and have fun in your fashion. You are funny using a g-string. Other cordillerans will laugh at you.
